Club finds answer to more caravanning more often with short, sweet monthly touring

The Kenawley Club impressed the hell out of Nagambie Leisure Park General Manager, David McIvor when they rolled up this month with a practical approach to using their caravans more.

They are normal people doing normal caravan holiday stuff. They make a point of travelling short distances with their caravans. And they make short stays regularly every month.

"The concept of the Kenawley Club travelling in regular short breaks of 2-3 days at a time and staying at different parks around Victoria once a month is ideal," David McIvor told GoSee after the Kenawleys stayed at Nagamabie Leisure Park this month.

"It shows that small groups of friends can get together for regular short breaks and actually use and enjoy their caravans," he said.

"They travel outside peak holiday periods taking full advantage of the freedom of caravanning".

"Our new park can cater for groups such as this with en-suite powered sites and comfortable new cabins for those who may not own a caravan - they can still enjoy our facilities with their friends," David McIvor said.

Ron Gawley of the Kenawley Club says it is a band of five couples who meet at least once a month caravanning.

"The idea was hatched just over a year ago when six of us decided we need to use our caravans more often," he told GoSee.

"The logistics is a bit of a problem as we are scattered all over Victoria, so a 300km radius was decided on, which means we are restricted to where we stay".

"Friday February 1 we arrived at Nagambie Leisure Park; the old Chinamans Creek Caravan Park which has been updated by Jayco with new cabins, toilet blocks, camp kitchens and pool," he said.

"The park has only been reopened since late December and can only get better".

"The tariff is a bit on the high side, but a lot of activities are thrown in for your hard earned," he said.

"Friday nite as usual the 'girls' had a feast prepared which we all enjoyed after our chin-wag and pre-dinner drinks".

"Early Saturday morning the 'boys' went for a hit of golf, then to the TAB to try and win our fortune, the golf was good the betting a bit of a disaster," Ron said.

"We all have caravans of differing sizes and models and the same goes for towing vehicles".

"In future reports I will do a little item on each rig. Our next meeting is the first weekend in March at Acheron- Twin Rivers Caravan Park. So if you see us with our “Kenawley” hats on say hello," Ron said.

Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park is located on the banks of Lake Nagambie and the Goulburn River and offers a wide variety of accommodation.

There are 1 and 2 bedroom waterfront cabins (sleep 2 – 6 people), bunkhouses (sleep 12 people) and powered sites, some with water views or ensuite facilities.

The Park has a 25 metre solar heated pool, 2 tennis courts, Recreation Room, barbecues and private boat ramp. Activities are up to campers. Read a book, relax, have a game of tennis, swim in the pool or have a barbecue with friends.

Row, water-ski, jet-ski or canoe the lake and river, or take a short drive to one of the many wineries or local attractions. Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park is about 80 minutes north of Melbourne.
